<div style="text-align: justify;" dir="ltr"><span>Le fonds réunit les travaux de linguistique et de toponymie gasconne effectués par Louis Rouch (1875-1942), professeur au lycée d’Auch de 1907 à 1935. Louis Rouch lançe dans les années trente une enquête sur les parlers gascons à l’échelle du département du Gers (région Midi-Pyrénées), en s’appuyant sur les contributions des instituteurs. À cette enquête collaborent Simin Palay, Michel Camelat, René Escoula, Jean-Pierre Rondou et l’abbé François Marsan.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;" dir="ltr"><span>Il consacre ses travaux à la toponymie des Pyrénées centrales et plus particulièrement de la haute vallée de l’Adour (environs de Bagnères-de-Bigorre et de Campan). Louis Rouch séjourne à Bagnères-de-Bigorre et entreprend une </span><span>Nomenclature topographique du haut bassin de l’Adour</span><span> à partir du relevé des noms de lieux fournis par les cadastres des communes d’Asté, Bagnères (de Bigorre), Beaudéan, Campan et Gerde (Hautes-Pyrénées) et il dresse un </span><span>Catalogue des noms de lieux du haut bassin de l’Adour</span><span> .</span></div>
