<div style="text-align: justify;">Dans les années 1980 l’Institut d’études occitanes est miné par des divisions qui aboutissent à une scission et au départ d’un certain nombre d’intellectuels. Ils vont fonder en 1982 une nouvelle association : <em>Obradors occitans</em> (Les ateliers occitans) domiciliée à Montpellier et présidée par Philippe Martel.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">L’association est structurée en cinq secteurs : recherche, création, animation, pédagogie et audio-visuel. Obradors occitans publiera la revue <em>Amiras</em>, la revue pédagogique <em>Practicas</em> ainsi qu’un bulletin et une dizaine d’ouvrages.</div>
