La bibliothèque de Lunel possède deux versions manuscrites différentes de ce poème qui fut inclus dans le volume édité en 1845. La première, non datée, numérisée ci-dessous, est reliée à part (in-8°). L'écriture en est soignée. La seconde version se trouve en tête du recueil des Fables de 1821-1823. Cette version pourait être plus ancienne ; elle comporte des ratures, l'écriture en est plus courante.
